SafetyFast! Notes – Mar 2016

By the time this issue of Safety Fast lands on your doorstep we will have said farewell to the 2015 season in style with the centre’s annual dinner dance and awards evening, photos will be on our Facebook page and our website soon. But following fast is our first competitive event of 2016 – The Kimber Classic Trial on Saturday 9th April entries close at the end of March so there’s still time to finish those winter jobs.

Alham SpashStarting near Yeovil the route covers around 90 miles through Somerset and Dorset and features 12 observed sections including the famous Alham Splash. Entry forms are available on our website or by emailing andrewowst@hotmail.com. The event always attracts a great variety of MGs and other classics, with the tests and the lunchtime stop at South Cadbury offering the chance to get close to the cars. For the best view though we are always in need of marshals without our volunteers events like this can’t happen. No experience is needed if you’re interested or have questions get in touch with Bruce Weston on 01963 440941 or email bruceweston@tiscali.co.uk

Whilst on the topic of marshalling once again we will be providing marshals for the MCC Lands End Trial. The start of the trial will be in Cirencester this year and we need volunteers to help with some basic scruitineering before the cars set off. For more information contact Jim Lott on 07773 491953 or jim.lott@hotmail.co.uk

Sadly I’ve got to report that the Wessex Sprint at Hullavington has been cancelled. After losing Colerne as a venue a few years ago we were hopeful that after a successful event last year we’d found a new home, but sadly the Ministry of Defence has put a stop to motorsport and other activities at the airfield and at this time we’ve been unable to find an alternative venue.

Finally a request from me, I’m in the process of updating the centre’s website if you have any suggestions for the new site please email me at the address above. I am also after any photos or video you have especially of our current events but any images from the centre’s 80 year history will be welcome.
