Chairman’s Notes – Saturday 12th May

Now the better weather is here, it is time to get out and about in your MGs!

Thursday 17th May – Tony Blake, who is also a keen flyer, has available some places on a visit to the RNAS Museum, Yeovilton. The visit will include viewing the Historic Flight and a lecture by a current Display Pilot.

Tony writes;

There are about 8 to 10 places left for the BullPup Flyers visit to Yeovilton on Thursday 17th May and if anyone is interested can they email me tonyblake38@hotmail.com soonest for the details. The basic details are as follows:

  • Entry 10.00 drive yourself to Yeovilton Main gate
  • Morning in the museum where you can have lunch
  • 14:00 escorted across the airfield to the Historic Flight hangar to view the aircraft

While there is no charge from us, the Historic Flight would like each visitor to sign up as a ‘Friend of the Historic Flight’ which is £30 for one year’s membership – option to renew if you wish, (also a collection for the speaker’s official bottle).

 I will provide full details tonyblake38@hotmail.com for anyone who wants to sign up.

The following Sunday 20th May, the SW centre has organised the Wye Valley Social Run starting from Severn View Services (Aust Services) on the M48, just before the Severn Crossing.  The destination is Croft Castle near Leominster for lunch.  The route will take in most of the Wye Valley following the Wye River wherever possible.  This is a very scenic route for those that have not done this run before.  We will aim to leave Severn View at 08:30.  Can anyone intending to take part contact me, chairman@mgccsw.com, to let me know please?  This will ensure that I have enough routes printed at the start.  However if you want to print your own route it is available on the website at WyeValley2018-Final-Route.pdf

June 2nd and 3rd is MG Live! at Silverstone, with the California Cup Autotest on the Saturday, an Auto-solo and the Sprint on the Sunday (all three events accrue points towards the SW Centre’s Drivers Championship).  The SW Centre do not organise the California Cup anymore and if we can get a team of 3 SW Centre members we could enter the team event.

June 15th and 16th The SW Centre has a stand at the prestigious Bristol Classic Car Show.  We normally display 4 cars but at present I only have 2 definite display cars, an MGA and an MG Midget.  If you have an MG which could be considered worthy of display and it is available from the afternoon of Friday 14th June until late afternoon on Sunday 16th contact me, chairman@mgccsw.com as soon as possible please.

July 8th – we have organised our Mid-Summer Picnic.  This year we are visiting Iford Manor in Wiltshire.  Once again the MGA Register will be joining us at the picnic after their drive.

I have received the following correspondence from Alan Whitfield who is organising the MGA Register Drive;

The South West Picnic day and the MGA register have combined for a second year. David Heath is organising Ilford Manor and I am responsible for the drive as the MGA South West representative.

In the spirit of unity within the club I am inviting any car club member to join us on the drive.

We are meeting at the Compass Inn Tormarton, around 09.30 for Tea/coffee and registration.

The entry fee is £10 per car (2 persons) to cover refreshment, route book, printing and MSA exemption certificate. The route is around 45miles with an arrival time between 12.00 to 13.00 hrs at Ilford Manor.

Any member wishing to take part needs to register with me at the above email address by July 1st .

Best regards,

Alan Whitfield alanwhitfield323@btinternet.com
