M.G. Car Club (South West Centre) and Inter Register Club
Cotswold Naviscat – 3rd May 2020
This event will take place in the Cotswolds and based at The Old Prison, Northleach, Fosseway, A429, Northleach, Cheltenham GL54 3JH.
Naviscats are just one step up from the well-known Treasure Hunt competition, requiring only knowledge of how to plot 6-figure map references, which will locate the clue-points. This event will take place on OS Landranger 1:50,000 scale Map 163.
The start and finish will be at The Old Prison, Northleach, where entrants will sign on from 9.30 – 10.00am and be issued with the Route-card. Bacon rolls will be available. Entrants will drive 50 – 60 miles and there will be 41/2 hours to collect the answers, before finishing back at the Start at 2.30pm for a light buffet lunch with results announced at 4.00pm.
Once clue-point locations are plotted, the crew decide themselves which route to take to collect the most points. When they arrive at a clue-point location, answer the question. (e.g. how many bolts on the gate, name the vicar, details on the signpost). The more difficult the location and/or question will determine the score, which will score 1, 2, 3 or 5 points. In some instances it may be necessary to alight from the car to find the answer.
This event will be a round of the Inter Register Club Championship, which will see entries from pre-war cars such as Riley, Alvis, Austin, Humber, Sunbeam, as well as MGs. Separate classes will accommodate more modern MGs. The event will count as a round of the MGCC South West Drivers Championship. Classes will be subdivided into Expert and Novice. Beginners on their first navigation event can enter a Touring Class receiving additional help with clue-point locations.
For further information contact Bob Blackstock by e-mail email@example.com or Telephone 01684 301756. Supplementary Regulations and Entry Forms will be available early in the New Year.
As the Cotswolds is a popular tourist destination overnight accommodation may be difficult to arrange – so very early booking is recommended. E-mail Bob for a few options that may be considered close to the start / finish venue.
