2 May @ 7:00 am - 5:00 pm£50.00
SOUTH WESTERN CENTRE, KIMBER CLASSIC TRIAL Weekend 2020
SATURDAY 2nd MAY 2020
The Supplementary Regulations and Entry Form for this year’s event are available to download: –
The trial will start at 9.15 am from The Lanes Hotel, West Coker, Dorset, 2 miles to the west of Yeovil on the A30(MR 194 518137) and finish at the end of the last section Hell Ladder Lane(MR 183/647320) in the late afternoon. The Lanes Hotel is also the venue for our annual informal diner. We have negotiated a very good deal with the hotel for the whole weekend, which includes bed and breakfast for the Friday and Saturday nights and dinner for Saturday night. Please book your accommodation and meals direct with the hotel. Details will be found on the entry form. We also hope that, as usual, local members, family and friends and competitors not staying at the hotel will join us for the Saturday dinner in which case please book your dinners through the entry form.
The trial includes mostly familiar sections and as ever, the route will take you along approximately 80 miles of charming rural lanes with splendid views. The sections and the special tests provide that competitive spice beloved of all true MG drivers, yet remain suitable for all cars whether concours or “well used”. In addition to classes for all types of MG and similar pre-war sports cars, there is a class, with its own award, for non-MG’s. Please note: Alham Splash will be optional and will not count towards the results, but for those wishing to attempt Alham Splash there will be a special award for the best performance.
The organisers do need to know if you are intending to attempt Alham Splash (see entry form). This is so marshals can be arranged.
As last year we have striven to provide a route that is non-damaging for all cars. We believe that we have been able to provide an event similar to that enjoyed by the competitors in the first “Kimber Trial” in 1937. Then Clubmen drove to the event in their everyday cars, mainly MG Midgets and expected them to still be available for work on Monday morning.
On the morning of Sunday 3rd May there will be a social gathering at Rocke’s Barn, Butleigh, the home of Hamish McNinch and Barry Foster who have kindly agreed to host this.
IMPORTANT—NEW RULING BY MOTORSPORT UK
All competitors and passengers taking part MUST obtain an RS Clubman Licence. These are issued FREE OF CHARGE by Motorsport UK and it is a very simple process to obtain them. The form and procedures can be downloaded from the Motorsport UK website https://www.motorsportuk.org/get-started/2020-rs-clubman-licence/. The form is short and very simple to complete. We suggest you obtain these as soon as possible because naturally many people are applying and due to the high demand Motorsport UK are taking time to issue the licences. Passengers must also be a member of the MGCC or an invited club. Club cards for both driver and passenger will be inspected at signing on.
The RS Clubman’s licenses will be inspected at signing on and the licence numbers noted on the signing on sheet.
We look forward to seeing you, preferably as a competitor, but failing that as a Marshal. Any offers for marshalling will be greatly appreciated. Please contact our chief marshal, Bill Bennett, via email at Bill@bennett-group.co.uk
