Wye Valley Social Run

20 May

This years Wye Valley Run, will start at Severn View Services (Aust Services) on the M48 and proceed along the Wye Valley to Croft Castle at Leominster.

The route will pass across the Severn Bridge on the M48, through Tintern Abbey, Redbrook, Symonds Yat Rock, St. Owens Cross, Hoarwithy, Little Dewchurch, Canon Pyon, Napton, Mortimers Cross and onto Croft Castle.

The route is about 62 miles and takes around 2 hours and 15 minutes to complete. People that already live the other side of the Severn, can join the run at any of the points listed above. Contact Jim Lott (chairman@mgccsw.com) for approximate timings when we will be at the different points.

Those starting from Severn View will set off at approx 08:30 aiming to arrive at the castle at around 11:00. There is room at the front of the Castle for 10 cars but they must have drip trays to protect the gravel drive, the remaining cars will be in the car park.

This is a National Trust Property and therefor free entry to National Trust Members. Cost to non members is £11.50 for the whole property or £7.00 for just the gardens. The venue has a Tea-room where local food and drink is freshly prepared in their own kitchen, including local beers, fruit juices, ciders, delicious homemade cakes and scones. Participants can also opt to take their own picnic and use the outside picnic tables provided.

I would like to thank Terry and Freda Davies for organising the venue and Simon Lott for detailing the route.

The route is available to download here

This event will provide points in the South West Centre Drivers Championship for both the driver and passengers, signing on sheets will be available at the start and also at the Castle to enable the points to be allocated.

An MSA Certificate of Exemption, 107560, has been obtained for this run.

    Jim Glanville,
If you live south of the Severn, the run will start at Aust Services and we will travel up the Wye Valley to Croft Castle, Yarpole, Leominster HR6 9PW.

The normal start at Symonds Yat is no longer viable and Terry and Vic cannot provide routes this year, so I am planning a route for those of us south of the Severn.

More details will be forthcoming on the website once I have sorted the route.

I’m really looking forward to this year after sadly missing last year.
I love that everyone makes me feel welcome even though I have a new Chinese MG. I look forward to seeing everyone’s amazing cars. 😀

      Hi Sophie,
I missed last year as well due to having a knee operation which curtailed driving for 8 weeks!. Look forward to seeing you and the Mg.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at Croft Castle 11 am to 4 pm, we have permission to park some cars at the front of the castle others will be in the main car park. We have been asked to try to ensure there are no oil spills on the forecourt please bring something to catch drips if you can. This is a National Trust property so bring membership cards if you have them. Sorry to have had to change the format this year

      Thanks Terry and Freda,
I have a route planned from Aust Services on the South Side of the bridge, once I have driven the route, I will add points where people can join us on route after the bridge.
