The Bath Gymkhana

May 23rd 2010

Well the day was well underway when the organisers motored up to Charmy Down to set out the course on a stunningly sunny day—things were going well and we even stopped for lunch before the keenest of the competitors arrived for
the afternoon’s sport.  The weather had been dry for some weeks (yes, really) and the surface was grassy but surprisingly hard under wheel.

By way of a change this year the ‘Long Test’ was even longer and that left room for just one other timed test.  This seemed to prove popular with the entry as zooming round a relatively un-complicated test is less of a mental
workout and more fun as a result.

Notable from the results sheet was Jess Hawke in her Midget and Adrian Carey in his MGF both scoring exactly the same over the four attempts at each test ( there were 2 timed and 2 judgement tests—but with only the best 3 scores
to count so if you mess up one test it doesn’t spoil the entire afternoon!).  They both came joint 3rd overall and, if I am right, this was the first Gymkhana either of them had entered.

The competition was not at all serious, everyone driving round seemed to have a huge grin on their faces all afternoon—what more could you ask for £10 ?  A selection of thrilling ‘photos of this and other SW events can be
viewed on our excitingly ‘new look’ web site at http://www.mgccsw.com/  once that I have got round to sending them in that is.

As to the future we have on July the 4th the MG Auto Aero Day at Henstridge (Temple Combe), August 1st Chew Valley Gymkhana (to the South of Bristol) and when similar stupidity will again be organised for the fun and enjoyment
of any member with £10 and an M.G.  Then the Mendip PCC on August the 22nd—all details of these and so very much more can be gleaned at http://www.mgccsw.com/
