6 MGs and their owners set off from Severn View Services at 11:00 on an overcast morning. There was no planned route but we all seemed to head the same way. The drive across the Severn Bridge and onto Chepstow was without problems, however, the road from Chepstow to Tintern has been closed by a landslide and a signed diversion is in place going North through Devaunden with views of the Black Mountains and re-joining the A466, Wye Valley road, just North of Tintern Abbey. The journey continued on the A466 until the single track Bigsweir Bridge across the Wye, where we took the right fork onto Stowe Road towards Coleford. This is a very pleasant road to drive with very little traffic. We arrived at Symons Yat Rock carpark at 12:00.
3 members of the MG car Club Midland Centre were already parked and we all managed to park together in the same area. Once the car park charge had been paid we all headed for the view point overlooking the River.
On the left hand side there are houses dotted on the valley side and on the right hand side the river sweeps majestically around forming a huge loop. Once we had taken some photos from the view point, we headed back to the cars as it had started to rain as was forecast. The picnics were eaten in the cars and then one by one the cars started to leave to head back home. For us it rained the whole way back to Bristol.
A very pleasant day out and the first organised event for the South West Centre for over 18 months. Social distancing rules were observed and it was nice to chat to people face to face rather over a zoom link. All those that took part seemed to enjoy the day and I received some nice comments about the route and the venue.
