It is with much sadness that we advise that on 5th April 2025, Bruce Weston passed away peacefully after a long illness. His son and daughter were beside him when he died.
Bruce joined the MGCC in 1968 when he acquired the beautiful red TC which he drove and cherished for the rest of his life. A couple of years later the South West Centre Committee felt they needed some young committee members, and Bruce who was in his early twenties, volunteered and remained on the committee ever since. For many years he was Secretary and at the last AGM was elected Hon. President of the South West Centre.
Bruce was a keen competitor in competitive events organised by the South West Centre, particularly the Babdown Gymkhana, he also competed in events run by the Main Club, such as the California Cup Autotests. He also raced his TC at the MGCC meetings at Silverstone in the early seventies. Despite using his TC with vigour in these events, it did not prevent him being the Overall winner of the MGCC Beaulieu Concours in the early seventies, no mean feat as there was always a large entry of some superb MGs at this popular international event. For many years Bruce could be identified by his deerstalker hat which he wore at virtually every event for many years and whilst driving his TC.
Bruce was also a keen marshal and event organiser and will be particularly associated with Wiscombe Park Hillclimb, as a competitor in the early years, then as Clerk of Course. He worked tirelessly with the organisers of the venue on order to continuously bring about improvements to the hill climb course in order that the venue could be enjoyed by Motor Cubs in the future. Under his leadership MGCC South West Centre was awarded the best organising club of the 2022 season.
Happily, Bruce’s son Mark and daughter Clare intend to keep the TC. To quote Mark, “the TC was his legacy, and we will ensure it lives on”. We extend our condolences to Mark, Clare and all Bruce’s family.
