Chairman’s Chat – 3rd February 2026

Summary;  Museum Visit, Breakfast Meets, Evening Natters, AGM & Spring Lunch, Summer Picnic, French Auto-Tour, 90th Anniversary Year, SW Centre Facebook Page

Museum Visit

Martyn Lucas has arranged for MG Car Club members to visit the Atwell Wilson Museum, Calne, Wiltshire on 2 separate occasions.  The first is on Saturday 20th June and the second is Saturday 25th July, both starting at from 11:00am (note these are not breakfast meets as the cafeteria is limited to hot drinks and snacks only). More information on the website at Atwell Wilson Museum Visit

Breakfast Meets

Following on from my plea last week for venues in the South Wales area, we have had a couple of leads which Martyn is pursuing, so watch this space.
One place that has been mentioned is the Llandow Circuit, Cowbridge, not far from Llantwit Major in South Wales. It has a small café, but with outside seating as an overflow. It is a popular stopping of point for Motorcyclists and maybe we can use it to have a breakfast meet there? The MGCC Speed Championship will be attending the circuit for the Bristol Pegasus Motor Club Sprint on Saturday 15th August, and a couple of the Centre Committee will be competing. Why not make a note in your diary to go along and spectate, after all, it is one of the Events in the ’90 for the 90′ birthday card to visit..

Evening Natters

Once again we have had a lead for a potential natter in the South Wales area at The Chainbridge, near Usk (used by the Morgan Club), however the person who suggested the venue hasn’t got the time to be Natter Leader.  Is there anyone in the Usk area, that could organise a natter at The Chainbridge?  Also are there any other venues that might be appropriate in the South Wales area? Please drop me an email with any suggestions.

AGM and Spring Lunch Saturday 7th March 2026

The agenda for the AGM is now available on the website and the other documentation, reports, accounts etc. will be available shortly.  Most of the Committee have been there longer than they care to remember, so any new members would be most welcome.  If you feel you could contribute to the running of the Centre, we are looking to recruit some new committee members to bring in some new ideas.  Meetings are Bi-Monthly on a Tuesday evening and held on-line via Microsoft Teams.  Please let me know before the AGM if you are interested in joining us.
The lunch menu for the Three Magpies at Seend is now available on the website.  I am co-ordinating the choices so the pub will have advanced warning of the meals required.  If you are intending to attend, please let me know your meal choices as soon as possible please (jim.lott@hotmail.co.uk).

MG Club de France Auto-tour of Wales 9th to 22nd September

This is the last call for information to be passed on to Christian Lissot, President of the MG Club of France, asking for a list of MG garages/workshops along a route he has planned in September, when a group of about 10 MGs (MGA, MGB) will be travelling from Portsmouth through Bath and Cardiff and around the West coast of Wales and then back via Snowdonia, Ludlow, Worchester, Cheltenham, Swindon, Southampton and Portsmouth over a period of 2 weeks.  The list is required in case any of the MGs will need repairs/maintenance.  Email me (jim.lott@hotmail.co.uk) with the addresses of any MG garages that you think may be of assistance along the route please.

90th Anniversary Year 2026 – 90 for the 90

As the February edition of Safety Fast has now been delivered, SW Centre Members, who take the printed magazine, will have received their ‘90 for the 90’ birthday card.  If you didn’t receive one in the magazine, please let me know.

The ’90 for the 90’ challenge is easy, just select a destination from the list in the birthday card, take a digital photograph of you, your car, your birthday card and the location as evidence of your visit and submit a claim and photograph using the claim form accessed here.  We are not expecting you to visit all the 90 places, but there could be a prize for the MG car that visits the most different venues.

Today was the Lunch Natter at the White Hart Iron Acton, 14 people attended, but only 3 MGs, a MG F, a MG TF and a MG 18/80 as most of use have taken our MGs off the road until the the weather improves. Mike and Jenny Angwin took Mikes MG F and I took their photo with his ’90 for the 90′ birthday card (below) as part of the challenge.

90th Anniversary Summer Picnic

The Committee are making plans for the Summer Picnic, being held on 19th July, in the field next to Dave Mothersdill’s house in Tockington.  There will be a live band to entertain, a free Pride of Ownership competition, and A Cook It Yourself Gas Barbecue so far.  We are also trying to source some Pub Garden games, if anyone knows where we can borrow/hire some please get in touch.

90th Anniversary Clothing

We have asked Ace Embroidery to produce our range of clothing with an alternative embroidered, 90th Anniversary Badge.  The Badge has been produced, and the Committee are considering the proof.  Once it has been agreed, the existing clothing range will be available with either badge.
