Following on from the AGM yesterday, Ian Beningfield stood down as the Chairman of the Centre due to work pressures. The Committee thanked Ian for his time as Chairman and we look forward to him organising the Wiscombe Hill Climb next September. It was proposed and seconded that I take up the position once again and I was unanimously voted back to the Chairmanship by those attending the AGM. We have also managed to recruit Max Tyler to the Committee. Max runs his own Karting Team, and has a lot of expertise in marketing and promotion, and will be invaluable in helping to take the South West Centre forward.
Having a ‘live’ AGM again made it a feel that members had their say. In the last few of years of having the AGM on line, we were lucky if we had 2 or 3 members as well as the committee. This year we had 26 members attending the AGM before a great lunch served by the staff at the Three Magpies at Melksham.
The final item on the agenda, Any Other Business, was postponed until after the lunch was over as members wished to fully discuss the validity of the current evening Natters. After a lengthy discussion, it was decided to suspend the current Chew Valley natter at the Ring O’Bells, Compton Martin, until further notice.
I have added a printable Calendar of events to the website, this can be accessed under the Events Tab on the Menu Bar or by clicking here Printable Calendar of Events.
The next March event on the calendar is on Sunday 30th March 2025, a Breakfast Meeting at the Crowns Café, adjacent to the REME Museum, Lyneham in Wiltshire , details on the website here Breakfast Meeting.
In April we have two South West Centre events planned, the first, on Sunday 13th April will be the Wye Dean Social Run along the Wye Valley to Norchard Station on the Forest Of Dean Railway (details on the website here Wye Dean Social Run), and the second April event, is on Sunday 27th April, and is the first of our 2 auto tests on grass, MGOG1, being held this year at Claverham Court Farm (preliminary details on the website here MGOG1). We have also been invited to display some cars at the 2025 Marque In The Park to be held in Alice Park, Bath on Sunday April 20th. Details are available by clicking here Marque In The Park
If any members have suggestions for future events that might be different and interesting to other members, please do get in contact as we would like to try and encourage members to get out and about in their MGs in our Centre.
