Summary; Breakfast Meets, Evening Natters, AGM & Spring Lunch, Summer Picnic, French Auto-Tour, 90 for the 90 is live.
Sincere Apologies for not posting a Chairman’s Chat last week, 20th January, things got a bit hectic and there just wasn’t the time. Oh, for having some spare time when you are retired!
Breakfast Meets
We are continuing to fill the calendar with Saturday Morning breakfast meets with The Rowdey Cow, Compton Abbas Airfield and the AV8 at Cotswold Airport already booked. We are enquiring whether we can revisit Richs Cider Farm again this year. We are also looking for a venues in the South Wales area, if you know of anywhere that would be of interest to MGCC members and have a car park and provide food please let me know (jim.lott@hotmail.co.uk)
Evening Natters
In trying to get members to use their MGs more (The aim is simple – to get us all out enjoying our MGs. Let’s drive them!). we want to encourage you to frequent the evening natters in your area (there is a list on the website by clicking here Evening Natters). We know it is difficult driving at night in the Winter months, but some of the Evening Natters are running Lunchtime sessions over the Winter. However, once the lighter evening are upon us, and it won’t be long now, please do visit your local natter. If you don’t have a local Natter, why not try to organise one? You just need a pub with a reasonable car park and a friendly Landlord who would probably welcome the extra custom on one night a month. Again we do not have any in South Wales now, so if anyone has any ideas on where we could hold one, please let me know your thoughts.
AGM and Spring Lunch Saturday 7th March 2026
The agenda for the AGM is now available on the website and the other documentation, reports, accounts etc. will be available shortly. Most of the Committee have been there longer than they care to remember, so any new members would be most welcome. If you feel you could contribute to the running of the Centre, we are looking to recruit some new committee members to bring in some new ideas. Meetings are Bi-Monthly on a Tuesday evening and held on-line via Microsoft Teams. Please let me know before the AGM if you are interested in joining us.
The lunch menu for the Three Magpies at Seend is now available on the website AGM and Spring Lunch. I will co-ordinate the choices so if you are intending to attend, please let me know (jim.lott@hotmail.co.uk).
90th Anniversary Summer Picnic
The Committee are making plans for the Summer Picnic, being held on 19th July, in the field next to Dave Mothersdill’s house in Tockington. There will be a live band to entertain, a free Pride of Ownership competition, and A Cook It Yourself Gas Barbecue so far. We are also trying to source some Pub Garden games, if anyone knows where we can borrow/hire some please get in touch.
MG Club de France Auto-tour of Wales 9th to 22nd September
I have received an email from Christian Lissot, President of the MG Club of France, asking for a list of MG garages/workshops along a route he has planned in September, when a group of about 10 MGs (MGA, MGB) will be travelling from Portsmouth through Bath and Cardiff and around the West coast of Wales and then back via Snowdonia, Ludlow, Worchester, Cheltenham, Swindon, Southampton and Portsmouth over a period of 2 weeks. The list is required in case any of the MGs will need repairs/maintenance. Email me (jim.lott@hotmail.co.uk) with the addresses of any MG garages that you think may be of assistance along the route please.
90th Anniversary Year 2026 – 90 for the 90

To celebrate the 90th Anniversary next year, all Club members are invited to take part in “90 For The 90”, a Self-Guided Motor Tour around the Centre. The aim is simple – to get us all out enjoying our MGs. Let’s drive them!
The dedicated website for “90 for the 90” is now live click here to get access. The website includes a copy of the Birthday Card, which you can download and print if you need one before the end of January, when the February SF will be published with the birthday card for South West Centre members.
The challenge is easy, just select a destination from the list in the birthday card, take a digital photograph of you, your car, your birthday card and the location as evidence of your visit and submit a claim and photograph using the claim form accessed here. We are not expecting you to visit all the 90 places, but there could be a prize for the MG car that visits the most different venues.
