Chairman’s Chat – 28th March 2023

At the weekend my 2023 season started with the first event of the MG Speed Championship at Cadwell Park, getting to the start line was (as always seems to be the case) a last minute affair with a long list of jobs to finish and then not helped by catching one of the exhaust clamps as I loaded the midget on to the trailer and ripping the entire rear section off.

Still I was able to make the long journey up north and the car with its new engine and a new 5 speed ford type 9 gearbox performed brilliantly, shame the driver was a little rusty. Weather conditions were mixed with plenty of wind and rain keeping all the competitors on their toes.

Cadwell Park in Lincolnshire is about as far as you can get from the SW Centre but in the coming months there will be rounds a little closer to home, at Llandow nr Cardiff, Prescott in Gloucestershire, Gurston Down nr Salisbury and of course our own event the Hillclimb at Wiscombe in Devon (more about that in a minute) When the speed championship visits Prescott in July and Gurston in August we are planning a road run to each venue, hopefully with dedicated MG parking at the event. More details coming soon.once arrangements are confirmed.

Back to Wiscombe, next Tuesday 4th April at the Ring O’Bells Natter there will be a special showing of a short film created by Tony Blake and John Cockwell covering the action at last year’s Wiscombe Hillclimb. More details on the film can be found here

Don’t forget there are plenty of events on the horizon starting in April, with more to be added soon, so check out the calendar to find something near you and I hope to see you at an event soon
