It was a beautiful, warm sunny day in the paddock alongside Dave and Deb Mothersdill’s house. The band arrived early to set up and sound check before the proceedings opened. Dave had set up some excellent shelters to give some shade from the very warm sun.
The MGs started to roll in just after 11:00 with Lorraine Noble-Thompson, MGCC Chaiman, the first to arrive, travelling from Scotland the day before. Many and various MGs started to arrive and be parked in type areas ably assisted by Simon Lott. In all we had a total of 32 cars, 3 Vintage, 4 T Types, 3 MG Midgets, 11 MGB. 2 MGC, 2 MGF, 2 MGTF, and Lorraine’s White, MG HS. There was also a little Grey Fergy tractor which was admired by some, me included.
Dave Mothersdill, cooked some of his special sausages, made using meat from his own pigs, which were enjoyed by the band members before they performed their first set.
Vistors were entertained by my band, ‘The Falcons’, playing a selection of 60’s rock and roll which was enjoyed by an appreciative audience as they tucked into their picnics.
In between The Falcons two sets, we were entertained by ‘In Accord’ a group of girl singers led by Deb Mothersdill.
While the Falcons played their second set the votes for the Pride of Ownership were made and posted in the box ready for the count towards the end of the event. Donations for entering the PoO were collected and over £80 was in the bucket at the end of the day. These donations will be sent, along with a donation from the Centre to the Meningitis Research Foundation, in memory of Ian Beningfield our past chairman.
With the votes in, Simon sat and calculated the results, whilst the chocolate cake was handed round to everybody.

Just before the event closed Lorraine presented engraved medals to the winners of the PoO and then congratulated the Centre for putting on a fantastic event and as a token of the MG Car Club’s appreciation of what the committee had achieved in our 90th year, presented the whole committee with a glass trophy engraved with “ Congratulations to the South West Centre on your 90th Anniversary from the MG Car Club’. I, in turn, was able to present Lorraine with a copy of our 90th Birthday Card used for 90 for the 90, drive your MG event, and an engraved MG Car Club ‘Thank You’ key ring.
